Dog left on balcony in 103-degree heat found dead in Phoenix apartment

On Wednesday afternoon, the Phoenix Police Department received a report that a dog seemed to be in distress. The canine was out on the apartment’s balcony without any food or water source, per Fox 10. Unfortunately, with the temperature reaching up to 103 degrees, the pup passed away.

When the police arrived, they brought the canine from the balcony to the apartment. However, the occupants were nowhere to be seen. They had left the apartment before the police officers could speak to them. Eventually, when they did return, resident Ivory Crawford was arrested for causing the death of her dog. She has been taken into custody and now faces animal cruelty charges.

To ensure the safety of your canine companions, they must have access to fresh water at all times. Preferably, the water should be cool to the touch. Moreover, they should have shaded areas to rest under, as leaving them out on the balcony or yard without any shade could lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, or worse. Dogs can also suffer from heat stroke, which could lead to further complications.

Pay attention to the surface of the area concerned, as cement and asphalt tend to heat up rapidly. If your pup is already showing signs of heat exhaustion, promptly remove them from the area where they feel hot. Wetting them can also help bring down the body temperature. However, only use room-temperature or cool water, as rapid cooling is not good for their body.
