Seven puppies rescued from the Middle East by a New York-based rescue organization are currently being fostered by U.S. military veterans. The canines were found in a war zone area near the U.S. military base in the Middle East. Unfortunately, they had been abandoned by their parent dogs and left to maneuver the traumatizing environment on their own.
Rescue puppies wait for adoptive owners on Long Island
According to News12 Long Island, American soldiers stationed in the Middle East military base rescued the puppies. These dogs bonded with the soldiers, who knew they had to get the pups out of that hostile region.
Unfortunately, the law doesn’t permit U.S. soldiers to bring home animals they rescued while on deployment. Luckily, Paws of War, a charitable rescue based in Long Island, does this on behalf of the soldiers.
Additionally, the organization is keen on giving back to U.S. veterans by giving them an opportunity to foster rescued pets. That way, the dogs will have people to care for them by the time their adoptive solider parents return home.
Furthermore, fostering rescued dogs is something the U.S. veterans love doing. The animals play a big role in helping them cope with various mental and emotional challenges triggered by their traumatic war experiences.
“These dogs are not only changing lives for our veterans and active military, these dogs are actually saving lives,” Robert Misseri, Paws of War president, told the news outlet. “It’s a very tough environment for these dogs to live in these areas. And they bonded with these puppies, they got them back to health. They knew one thing, they were not going to leave them behind.”
According to CBS News, Paws of War flew the seven pups from the Middle East to the U.S. Currently, the dogs are with their veteran foster parents.
“Now, we have to hope these soldiers will come back safe, and they will be reunited with their pups,” Messeri shared.
