How a ‘Friends’ Episode Ignited Jennifer Aniston’s Love for Dogs

Jennifer Aniston will soon be releasing her first children’s book, “Clydeo Takes a Bite Out of Life,” which will be about one of her rescue dogs, Clyde. The actor is a huge advocate of rescuing canines, and it all began with an episode of the hit TV series “Friends.” The book launch comes at the same time as the Clydeo Fund, which will help raise awareness about rescue organizations. It will also help raise money for them.

How a ‘Friends’ scene helped Jennifer Aniston meet her first rescue dog Norman

Jennifer Aniston’s love for dogs began when she met Norman on the set of “Friends.” In an interview with PEOPLE, she revealed, “Norman was my first. And it was just a fluke.” In a scene featuring Chandler (Matthew Perry) and Joey (Matt LeBlanc), the actors ran into a dog walker who had several canines with him. All Aniston needed was that one meeting and she instantly “fell in love” with Norman.

Unfortunately, the pup passed away in 2011, when he was 15 years old. Norman was a Welsh Corgi and Terrier mix who went with Aniston almost everywhere. In a 2011 interview, the actor noted, “He’s my baby boy. Norman goes with me on location — I’ve got to take Norman.” She also told the magazine that her canine companion had a calm personality and remained unfazed mostly.

Jennifer Aniston is now the proud dog mom to pups — Clyde and Lord Chesterfield. While the actor is now a dog lover through and through, she didn’t grow up surrounded by canine companions.

She first introduced the character Clydeo, who is the protagonist of her children’s book, in 2021. It will be a series of four books, with the first installment “Clydeo Takes a Bite Out of Life” launching on Oct. 1 with Harper Collins. When she was first approached for the book series, it was a no-brainer that she would like to make it about something she is passionate about. Aniston noted it was obvious that her books must be about her canine companions and help bring awareness to rescues to encourage more people to adopt.
