A dog shot in a man’s driveway by a seemingly random truck driver has baffled a community in central Minnesota.

According to Bring Me the News, the shocking incident happened on Tuesday. A dog owner named Greg Brunner was fixing his vehicle at his Long Prairie home. Then, around 6:30 p.m., he heard gunshots. So Brunner went to look for his dog. He found the canine, Waylon, in the driveway. The dog had been shot and was bleeding. Brunner sped the wounded pup to the vet. Unfortunately, Waylon died.
On Wednesday, Brunner’s friend, Austin Larson, shared the sad story on Facebook.
“My friend Greg Brunner was working on his vehicle when he heard multiple gunshots near his driveway. He ran to his dog, his best friend, Waylon and attempted to slow the bleeding and bring him to the nearest vet which happened to be a couple miles away. That’s where Waylon took his last breath,” Larson wrote.
According to a neighbor, a 2016 or newer dark blue Chevrolet pickup truck backed out of Brunner’s driveway around the time of the shooting.
“If you know Greg at all, you know Waylon was by his side everywhere he went,” the Facebook post continued. “Waylon was incredibly friendly and an amazing companion. Greg is beyond devastated and hearing the heartache in his voice tears me apart.”
Larson hopes that someone will reach out with information to bring Waylon’s killer to justice.
“I’m making this post in hopes that this is shared and the low life scum responsible for taking Waylon can be brought to justice and hopefully never own a firearm again,” he wrote.
Dog shootings increasingly common
Regrettably, this tragedy is only one of a slew of incidents involving dogs getting shot. Earlier this month, 46-year-old Ryan Krietzinger allegedly shot his neighbor’s dog with a pellet gun while the dog was on the deck in an adjacent yard in Beaverdale. The dog, named Buddy, was a Coton de Tulear. He weighed a mere 11 pounds. The bullet got stuck between the dog’s ribs. Though Buddy was rushed to a veterinary clinic, he soon died. Krietzinger denied shooting the dog and even claimed that Buddy previously attacked his unidentified hunting breed dog. But Buddy’s owner said that attack never happened.
In another devastating incident, Boston police shot two dogs. The cops were in the process of searching an apartment for a suspect with multiple arrest warrants. Though residents warned police officers that there was a Pit Bull in the bathroom, an officer entered the space. The Pit Bull defended itself, and in the process, was shot by the police officer. Another dog was also shot during the ordeal.
