University Students Develop Pet Event Program To Support Local Shelter For Class Assignment

Students from North Dakota State University used a business-related class assignment to create a community-driven events program for dogs — Playtime Pet Events.

“One of the assignments for the semester is to pretty much come up with a business idea and have some sort of prototype or service that shows what your business entails,” said Playtime Pet Events Co-Founder, Tanaya Hopkins, to KVRR.

“So for ours, we decided to do events for dogs.”

Proceeds from events, such as their Interactive Dog Walk, support their local dog shelter.

Basically, the event was a dog walk with some extra fun for pooches and pet parents.

Instead of just taking their dogs for a stroll in the park, local dog lovers and their pets engaged in a series of interactive activities along the way.

The students set up four unique stations along a well-trodden trail for dogs and their companions. They engineered all the stations to engage dogs, wear them out, award them with well-earned treats, and show them a doggone good time.

Stations included various activities such as bubble catching, treat-finding puzzles, and tennis ball bobbing challenges. If a pup made it through all activities, they were also entered for a chance to win a highly coveted dog treat launcher. Yum!

All Event Proceeds Benefit Local Shelter

Playtime Pet Events intends on holding more events. Their aim is to run one every other week throughout the year for both their coursework and to support the Homeward Animal Shelter.

“We are taking donations, and all donations will go to a local animal shelter here in Fargo,” said Hopkins.

If you would like to follow along with the events or donate to their efforts with shelter assistance, then you should follow Playtime Pet Events on Facebook here.
