Dogs are known as (hu)man’s best friend, but let’s face it: for us, they’re more than friends. They’re family. So it’s no wonder that many pet owners want to include their fur babies in major events and milestones, like weddings. Celebrities are hip to this trend, and many have ensured their beloved pups are included in their big (and wildly expensive) day. From walking down the aisle to posing for wedding portraits, celebrity dogs have played a significant role in their famous owners’ weddings. Today, we’re taking a stroll down memory lane, and revisiting some of the most memorable instances where A-list personalities incorporated their canine companions into their nuptials.
Celebrity Dogs Featured in Their Famous Owners’ Weddings
Carrie Underwood
When Carried Underwood married hockey star Mike Fisher in July 2010, the award-winning vocalist assigned her dog, Ace, the role of ring bearer. The tiny pup wore a pink tuxedo for the occasion. “He’s like my kid,” Underwood said ahead of the wedding, according to US Weekly.
Julianne Hough
When Julianne Hough married hockey player Brooks Laich in 2017, the couple included their two adopted Cavalier King Charles Spaniels in the festivities, according to The Knot.
Seth Meyers
Seth Meyers’ Greyhound didn’t just participate in his wedding to human rights lawyer Alexi Ashe; the pup helped the late-night show host propose. “I tied [the ring] in a bow around our dog’s collar,” Meyers told Jimmy Fallon during a 2013 interview, according to People.
Joe Jonas
Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner said “I do” in a secret Las Vegas ceremony in July 2019. But when they followed that wedding up with another round of nuptials in France a few months later, they invited Jonas’ Alaskan Klee Klai, named Porky Basquiat, to be one of the groomsmen, according to Time.
Miranda Lambert
When Grammy Award-winning country singer Miranda Lambert married Brendan McLoughlin in 2019, a bridesmaid walked the couple’s dogs (Delta Dawn, Cher, and Waylon), down the aisle. “They were tiny little representatives, but they got a lot of laughs and attention. They were right in the big middle of everything,” Lambert’s mother told People.
Kaley Cuoco
The Flight Attendant actress and avid dog-lover walked down the aisle with Karl Cook in 2018, according to The Knot, and when they did, four of the couple’s dogs followed. Though the couple has since divorced, Cuoco continues to expand her furry family.
Ellen DeGeneres
When Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi got hitched in an intimate ceremony at their Los Angeles home in August 2008, they made sure to include their rescue pups, Mabel and Wolf, as guests of honor. The fur babies were captured in a beautiful wedding portrait that DeGeneres shared on social media in 2020 when Wolf died, according to Hello.
