Since today is National Hamburger Day, you might be aware that Burger King recently announced the return of the $5 “Your Way” Meal. In order to compete with McDonald’s planned $5 meal, the flamed-broiled fast-food giant is planning to beat them to the punch, per an internal memo secured by Bloomberg.
“Burger King is accelerating its value offers after three quarters of leading the industry in value traffic. We are bringing back our $5 Your Way Meal as agreed upon with our franchisees back in April,” the company said in a statement to USA Today. The Burger King $5 meal deal includes a choice of three sandwiches, fries, and drink.
Since we’re a site about dogs, that got us thinking. Remember the Dogpper? We sure do.
Remembering the ‘Dogpper’
In another attempt to attract more customers, Burger King announced the Dogpper in 2018. What is a Dogpper? Well, it was “a flame-grilled, Whopper-flavored biscuit bone that’s made just for dogs,” Today reported in 2018. However, customers had to use DoorDash and enter the promo code “DOGPPER” to actually get one.
We could only find traces of the Dogpper’s existence on Burger King’s Portugal menu. Maybe it is still a hit there. Three years later, Burger King Korea announced the “Real Dogpper” that was made with ingredients that both humans and dogs could consume.
We strongly advise against feeding your dog french fries due to the high levels of fat and sodium. But we do recommend telling your dog the story about the Doggper as you enjoy your Burger King $5 meal. Make them their own hamburger instead (organic and plain, of course!).
