F1’s Lewis Hamilton on How Plant-Based Diet Transformed His Dog’s Health

F1’s Lewis Hamilton recently shared how his pet Roscoe is “almost like a different dog” because of his plant-based diet. Hamilton, who adopted the plant-based lifestyle seven years ago, talked about how a similar diet completely transformed his Bulldog. The professional racer admitted seeing a noticeable difference in his pet’s health, after which he eventually decided to invest in Bramble, a plant-based dog food.

Why Lewis Hamilton switched his dog Roscoe to a plant-based diet

In an exclusive interview, Lewis Hamilton disclosed to PEOPLE why he chose a plant-based diet for his dog, Roscoe. Hamilton detailed that when he first adopted Roscoe, the canine was completely different because of his diet. The dog dad claimed that he had always prioritized looking after Roscoe’s “quality of life” and “health,” and the Bulldog’s diet “was just one part of that.”

Hamilton revealed his dog is more energetic and “doesn’t struggle as much with the health issues” since adopting a plant-based diet. Roscoe, now 12 years old, followed a normal dog diet that involved meat consumption for eight years. Hamilton said the pooch “always had health issues” and often struggled to perform certain activities such as breathing and walking. However, for the last four years, the F1 icon took on a plant-based diet for his Bulldog after doing “some research.”

Roscoe’s health has been better ever since, with a noticeable improvement in his fur coat, which is now “softer.” Lewis Hamilton also cautioned others that a plant-based diet “could be helpful as long as you were making sure the dog was getting all its nutritional needs met.” In fact, his latest venture as an investor in Bramble is because of the life-altering difference he witnessed in his own dog.

The seven-time Formula One Driver’s Championship winner began following a plant-based diet long before choosing a similar lifestyle for Roscoe. Hamilton took on this diet seven years ago and noticed wonders in his health and fitness. At first, he doubted if he “would be able to get enough protein as an athlete,” but that has not been a problem since he incorporates “other protein-rich foods” into his diet.

On Monday, Hamilton also announced via an Instagram post about his and Roscoe’s recent work with Bramble.
