A high-action dog rescue story is winning hearts on the internet. A street dog who allegedly endured a gunshot had been on the run from officials for nearly 5 months. As reported by Denverite, the heavily wounded canine, possibly an Australian Shepherd, has finally been captured and taken to the shelter for treatment.
In April 2024, Denver Animal Protection began its search for the dog, who was in custody but somehow escaped. The lead officer of the protection center, Jenna Humphreys, told the news outlet that on August 22, they received the news of the dog getting injured in the neighborhood of Athmar Park in Denver, Colorado, through a 911 dispatch call. From there, the extensive rescue mission commenced.
Dog shot in the face finally rescued after months
As mentioned earlier, a skittish street dog who reportedly suffered a gunshot in the face has finally been saved after a long and action-packed rescue. The previous week, Denver Animal Protection released a notice about the canine being seen in Denver’s Athmar Park. Soon, veteran pet advocate Sarah Luv-Garcia learned about it. Along with her friend, Karlee Arguello, she decided to go on a quest to capture the injured dog.
They ended up meeting a local woman, who informed them that the dog had visited her backyard and front yard. After getting permission, they went on to build a trap the size of a yard right behind the house of the neighborhood woman. They utilized 20 grating panels to create an aviary in the yard. After that, Sarah Luv-Garcia and Karlee Arguello baited the stray dog with squeezed cheese, rotisserie chicken, and more. Then, they put cameras in the place and closely monitored them from a nearby parked vehicle.
On Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 8:30 p.m., the dog finally made an appearance. As soon as they saw him in the right place, they captured him in the trap. When they slowly approached the canine, they could spot the round-shaped hole on his face. As reported by Denverite, Luv-Garcia described the dog as “sweet” and “gentle.” She said, “I saw how sweet he was. He was such a gentle dog that absolutely didn’t deserve that, and now he’s really safe.”
They called Denver Animal Protection after safely securing the dog. Then the center took him to the shelter. Now, as per the news outlet, the rescued dog is receiving treatment and getting better.
