Puppy rescued by Denver firefighters, fell 4 stories through open floor vent

South Metro Fire Rescue rescued an adorable Pekingese puppy on Tuesday. The canine had fallen four stories through an open floor vent in a townhouse in Denver, Colorado. The vent was uncovered, which led to the pup being stuck in a difficult situation for about three hours before he was rescued.

In a post on X — formerly known as Twitter — the fire department noted that the beloved pet is Archie Bean. Moreover, he is only 12 weeks old and weighs about 5 pounds. The fire department got help from Plumbline Services and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department for the rescue mission. However, the operation wasn’t easy, as the team had to locate Archie, who was stuck somewhere in the intricate ductwork.

The puppy’s rescue required them to cut multiple holes in the walls and ceiling to finally gain access to the ducts. Then, they used a small camera to help locate Archie. Knowing his exact location further helped ensure the quick rescue of the stranded pup. The beloved pet could be heard whimpering somewhere in the duct system.

Archie’s pet parent noted that she had informed her entire family about the pup’s predicament, asking them to keep him in their prayers to make it out of the ducts safely. Fortunately, the team could safely rescue the puppy, per ABC News. In the video, his owner gratefully said, “Everybody who [were] digging into my house and cutting in the walls and the ceilings. Thank you so much for not giving up…”
