Dog killed with ‘makeshift spear’ in Texas, family wants answers

A Texas family is left shocked as their family dog was killed in broad daylight using a “makeshift spear.” Labrador mix Chance was about eight years old and was considered a family member by his humans. The pet parent told KVEO, “I don’t even like to say the term dog, he was like my son.”

Chance had a habit of leaving the backyard to roam the neighborhood, but his owner noted that they had never had any complaints from their neighbors. Moreover, the canine knew his way back home. Even after being stabbed by the “makeshift spear,” the dog found his way back to his family before passing away.

They found blood on the streets around their house, and the weapon was still lodged in his body. Thus, his family believes he slowly made his way back home even after being severely wounded. Unfortunately, they discovered his body in their front yard only after he had already passed away.

Chance’s owner described the weapon as a “4-inch knife, with a 2-inch handle with another 2 inches of PVC pipe.” The “makeshift spear” had impaled the dog near his abdomen. The pet parents can’t imagine what could have led the suspect to kill their beloved pet so brutally.

The Brownsville Police Department stated that the investigation is ongoing, and there are no suspects as of yet. Chance’s stabbing is an isolated crime that doesn’t tend to happen often. However, the police department noted that keeping one’s beloved pets secured and within property premises can prevent such incidents.
