BARK Air Set To Take Its First Flight That Caters to Dogs

BARK Air is set to take its first flight on Thursday, May 23. The United States-based airline caters to dogs first and their humans after, allowing canines to fly first class. BARK first announced its new venture in April, introducing it as a unique air travel experience for pets that focuses on their comfort and needs.

BARK Air set to take its first dog-first flight from New York to Los Angeles

On Thursday, BARK Air’s first flight will depart New York for Los Angeles at 4 PM EST. Flight tickets are available for $6,000 and $8,000. Humans can bring their pups as their plus ones. This is quite different from what pet parents are used to. Most airlines that allow pets onboard require them to stay in their crates throughout, with some not allowing passengers to bring along any carry-on luggage.

However, BARK Air will welcome dogs as its passengers. The canines don’t have to go through the hassle of being in crates in the cargo hold. While BARK Air’s first flight will travel from New York to Los Angeles, the airline also has a New York to London route. It has also added Paris as a stop on its website but has not officially announced the route yet.

It is important to note that the canine-friendly airline doesn’t own or operate the aircraft, per CBS News. Instead, it is a public charter service that lets your pups enjoy the comfort of Gulfstream G5 jets. While there might be no size or breed restriction for dogs, children under 18 are not allowed onboard.

The cost of BARK Air’s tickets can be considered steep. However, BARK’s co-founder and CEO, Matt Meeker, assured that prices would drop once there was more demand. In addition to BARK Air, K9 JETS also welcomes canine passengers. Based in the United Kingdom, the airline is also a public charter operator but has more locations to choose from.
