The tiniest ever Puppy Bowl participant, Cavapoo Sweetpea’s death hits dog lovers hard

The Puppy Bowl bid farewell to its smallest-ever participant, Sweetpea, as USA Today reports. She was a 1.7 pounds weighing Cavapoo — a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle mixed breed. Eventually, social media became flooded with tributes as people mourned the loss of this tiny canine.

A heart-wrenching cry of “No!” echoes in @Possum.Luvr’s TikTok video, where they captioned the clip “underdog in our hearts.” In the footage they shared, their friends react to the announcement of Sweetpea’s death. Puppy Bowl XX showed a card in her honor at the end of the game’s recording, which broke the news of her passing.

In addition, a commenter wrote, “I was already having a bad day, and I decided ‘watching cute puppies will help’ and then the ending message made my day worse ☹️”

Jennifer Siegel, the animal director at Bosley’s Place rescue in Georgia, confirmed Sweetpea’s death, as per the New York Post. Siegel informed that the Cavapoo passed away from a kidney illness on Nov. 20, 2023, at the tender age of 5 months. She was born on July 1, 2023, in Tennessee and was raised at the Bosney’s Place rescue.

In Siegel’s words, “Sweetpea lived a charming life. She was very loving. Everyone loved Sweetpea.” She further added, “We knew when she came to our rescue, she was going to be a medical nightmare. We made sure she was taken care of well and gave her the best life possible with her short life expectancy.”

According to Siegel, Sweetpea was born with a hole in her heart. Moreover, she suffered from hydrocephalus, a neurological condition characterized by an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid within the brain’s cavities.
