Six-year-old Pointer Pip has been labeled the United Kingdom’s most unwanted dog after three years in a shelter, The Mirror reports.
The pup arrived at the RSPCA’s Blackberry Farm Animal Centre in 2020, spending the UK’s Covid-19 lockdowns in a holding pen. But she’s still looking for a forever home with an owner who enjoys rural walks and plenty of cuddles.
A Joy to Be Around
“A lot can happen in three years, as the world has seen. But poor Pip is still waiting to start the next stage of her life,” said shelter manager Julie Allen.
“We just cannot believe that she is still with us. She is such an amazing dog with so much character.
“Once Pip knows you she is an absolute joy to be around. She is goofy and loves charging around after toys, and she absolutely loves a cuddle.
“Pip finds unexpected events startling which can include people suddenly appearing or making her jump.”
Staff at the shelter have been busy teaching Pip new routines around meeting people. The pup does have some specific needs that her new home requires.
“She is looking for a home that is in a quiet, non-built-up area with plenty of access to rural walks,” the shelter said.
“She needs people who can continue to support her and give her a safe environment, with plenty of space in which to build her confidence and to bring out her loving, playful nature in the home.”
Finding the Right Forever Home
It was difficult to rehome Pip during the lockdowns as it made meeting prospective owners more difficult, and as restrictions have eased the behavior team has been working with her.
“She has quite specific rehoming needs – somewhere quiet, as the only dog, and in an adult-only home or one where children are over the age of 16,” they said.
“This is why we think it is taking so long to find the right home for her. She is a great dog and in the perfect home with the right owners, she will flourish.”
