An important part of friendship is something called “mirroring.” Basically, it means that we need friends to mirror back what we are experiencing, be it our emotional state or our body language. A one-eared Pit Bull from North Carolina is taking the concept a step further, by turning a stuffed toy into a one-eared animal just like himself.

One-Eared Pit Bull Reimagines Stuffed Animal

Bruno is a Pit Bull from Raleigh. He lost his left ear during a dog fight, so it kind of makes sense that he recently pulled the left ear off of his favorite stuffie – who happens to be a dog with brown ears, just like him.

The SPCA of Wake County posted pics of Bruno with his stuffed BFF to its Facebook page, along with the rescue pup’s backstory. Apparently, Bruno used to be chained up outside. He suffered through brutal winters and sweltering summers outdoors. He was not only at the mercy of the elements; he also endured dog attacks.

“Bruno used to live chained up outside, and his ear was torn off when another dog attacked him, and he couldn’t run away,” the shelter wrote. “But Bruno knows there’s nothing wrong with him, and now he has a best friend just like him to prove it.”

Despite the rough upbringing, the SPCA said Bruno is a nice guy.

“You would never know he had such a tough start to life — despite his pouty eyes, he’s a very happy and loving guy, and his tail absolutely never stops wagging!” SPCA workers told FOX10. “He’s well-behaved, cuddly, and very smart.”

They continued, “Despite being attacked, he still likes other dogs, and he loves every person he meets. He’s got a big heart and a forgiving soul.”

Pit Bull Rescue Goes Viral

Bruno transforming his stuffed animal friend into a one-eared pup just like himself is an example of his softer side. It also appears to have been his ticket to a forever home. An SPCA staff member snapped a pic of Bruno and posted it on social media, unaware that the post would go viral.

Bruno quickly “maxed out” on adoption applications and found his forever home within days.

Unfortunately, he can’t go to that forever home just yet. Bruno has to stay at the SPCA for heartworm treatment.

“He’ll be in a foster period for the next couple of months while we provide that lifesaving heartworm treatment, but once his treatment is complete, his adoption will be official,” the shelter said.

When he’s well enough to go home, we hope he gets to take his one-eared stuffed animal with him!
