It’s the most wonderful time of the year…if you’re a fan of “The Elf on the Shelf”, that holiday tradition where parents put a creepy little elf in random places and in often hilarious positions around the home for their children to find. If you’re one of the moms and dads who thought they got the last laugh this year, however, we have a dog to introduce you to. That’s because a 4-year-old pup named Posey ate her family’s Elf of the Shelf – and lived to tell the tale (or rather, wag her tail another day).

A Christmas Surprise

Jessika See, a mom in Lake Charles, Louisiana, set up her kids’ elf, Rudy, before she went to pick them up from school. She staged Rudy making “snow angels” on a flour-covered kitchen countertop. But when she returned home with 9-year-old Rafe and 6-year-old Cam, Rudy was nowhere to be found.

“We just got home and walked into this scene of flour everywhere and the dog licking her lips,” the mom told SWNS.

See immediately surmised that the pup must have swallowed Rudy.

“I think she ate it because it had flour on it. I guess she found it tasty,” she said.

Posey has a habit of eating inanimate objects – everything from Play-Doh to socks. She’s the kind of dog that will devour an entire loaf of bread, plastic bag included. So imagining the pooch chowing down on an elf is not that much of a stretch.

Elf on the Shelf ‘Magically’ Reappears

When the kids realized what had happened, they both burst into tears. After capturing their reaction on video, their mom reassured them that Rudy was magical and would reappear.

“Then a day later, the elf was ‘back’ — and they were totally fine,” she said.

Luckily, Posey was able to pass the elf, and a fresh toy replaced it without the kids knowing any better.

Still, it seems as though Posey might make Santa’s naughty list.

“Our dog has been a bit of a Scrooge,” See said.
