With Nick Saban retiring in 2024, the end of an era comes to college football. Almost unanimously considered one of the greatest college football coaches of all time, Saban had an illustrious career that included seven national championships — the most in college football history.

With stops at Kent State, Toledo, Michigan State, and two stops in the NFL, Saban was hired as the Alabama Crimson Tide’s head coach in 2005. During his 17 seasons in Tuscaloosa, Saban compiled a 206-29 record and won six national titles between 2009 and 2020.

“The University of Alabama has been a very special place to Terry and me,” Nick Saban said in a statement posted to Alabama’s official website on Jan. 10, 2024. “We have enjoyed every minute of our 17 years being the head coach at Alabama as well as becoming a part of the Tuscaloosa community.”

He added, “The goal was always to help players create more value for their future, be the best player they could be and be more successful in life because they were part of the program. Hopefully, we have done that, and we will always consider Alabama our home.”
