Eleven years ago, a plucky Yorkshire Terrier named Rex went missing from his human’s house in the town of Stoughton in Massachusetts under suspicious circumstances. Miraculously, Rex recently reunited with his human, Marzena Niejadlik, thanks to the wonders of microchip technology.
A Facebook post from the Stoughton Police Department relayed the details of the case:
“Animal Control Officer (ACO) Michelle Carlos responded to a loose Yorkie running on Record Street. The Yorkie had not been taken care of. ACO Carlos fed him, gave him some fresh water and a good bath. She then checked for a microchip and it revealed his name is Rex, he is 12 years old and belonged to a woman named Marzena out of Boston.”
Without his microchip, Rex likely would have never made it home to his human.
Over A Decade Away
Unsurprisingly, Niejadlik was shocked when given the news that Rex had been found, having originally suspected that her dog had been stolen.
She originally brought Rex home as a gift to her family following the sudden, unexpected death of a relative.
But one day, Rex ran outside and disappeared. As the years went by, Niejadlik began to lose hope that the dog would ever return.
Luckily, Rex had his microchip, and eleven years later, Niejadlik got the call from ACO Carlos. Rex was finally coming home!
Underscoring the importance of microchipping as a simple and effective way to keep dogs safe, the Stoughton Police Department further added: “This reunification is one for the ages and wouldn’t have happened without this technology.”
