A K9 officer is under investigation for the most unforgivable of crimes…eating a coworker’s lunch! The Wyandotte Police Department of Michigan recently shared on Facebook that a canine on the force was accused of being a food thief – and the hilarious post quickly went viral.

K9 Accused of Stealing Lunch

Officer Barwig was enjoying his lunch in the break room when he was interrupted and asked to help out with someone in the WPD jail. While he was out of the room, what remained of his meal went missing.

When Officer Barwig and another officer returned to the breakroom, a K9 coworker named Officer Ice was found “leisurely strolling out of the room licking his chops,” according to the Facebook post.

“Stealing is not only a crime but it is morally wrong too. Some jobs, like that of being a police officer, require you to take an oath prior to starting. Within the officer’s sworn oath is the promise to protect person’s property,” the post read. “That being said, it saddens me to report that a current officer of the Wyandotte Police Department is under investigation for stealing!”

According to the post, Officer Ice “has invoked his fifth amendment right to remain silent and quite frankly is not cooperating with the investigation.” And no wonder, given that the K9 has a “history of rummaging through trash cans that are within his reach. There have been several other accusations of him taking food right from coworker’s hands as they walk by.”

Facebook Followers Defend Dog

The WPD said it would take followers’ comments into consideration regarding how to proceed with the investigation. Well, be careful what you wish for, because people piled on. Most supported the pup, reminding law enforcement that he was innocent until proven guilty.

Within a matter of days, the WPD posted again. “The overall public just doesn’t believe he is guilty. No video has been produced,” the post read. “Ofc [sic] Ice will not face any internal discipline or criminal charges.”

One supporter even delivered a custom-made sandwich tray because they felt like Officer Ice “wasn’t being fed enough.”

Who says there’s no such thing as a free lunch?
