Pit Bull Saves Dog Dad from Kansas House Fire

A Kansas man lost almost everything in a house fire recently – and he might not even be alive to tell the tale if it weren’t for his Pit Bull.

Stop, Drop, and Roll

Tyler Revel is the proud dog dad of Monroe, a 6-year-old Pit Bull. Monroe is more than Revel’s furry best friend; he’s his lifesaver.

He said to ABC News, “She’s my best friend. She’s a good dog. She’s my hero right now. I’m really proud of her”.

On Sunday afternoon, Revel had a nap between football games when an inferno set his home ablaze in Wichita. Monroe sprang into action, jumping on the bed and nudging Revel. “She didn’t even hesitate”, he said.

The dog’s whining, crying, and whimpering woke Revel up. They were instantly engulfed in smoke and could hardly see as they made their way to safety.

“I’m just really lucky,” Revel told ABC News. “I think if she wasn’t there, I wouldn’t have made it out alive.”

A Grateful Dog Dad

Revel stood before the crumbling remains of his home with reporter Will Ganss.

“I feel like I haven’t processed this yet,” he said with a sigh. “Yeah, I don’t know, man. It’s hard to put into words.”

A fire relief fund has been set up for Revel by his sister, Kimberly, who wrote on her website, “My brother has a huge heart and he always gives to others when he can.”

She added, “Monroe is truly a guardian angel and saved my brothers [sic] life!”

The fund has raised almost $5,500 so far.

Though the fire took nearly all of Revel’s possessions, he still has his fur baby, and an attitude of gratitude.

“I think we take a lot for granted, you know? And all that stuff in there,” he said, indicating his decimated home, “there’s more that matters. It can all be replaced. She can’t. I can’t. It is a very humbling experience.”
