Reese Witherspoon’s Adorable Habit of Naming Her Dogs After Celebrities

Turns out that even celebrities name their dogs after celebrities. Academy Award winning actress and dog mama Reese Witherspoon sports a furry family of pups, two of whom are named after other famous people.

Famous Dogs Named After Famous People

The “Sweet Home Alabama” star’s two most recent additions to her pack have celebrity names. Particularly, her French Bulldog, Minnie Pearl, is named after the country legend and comedian, and her Chocolate Labrador is named after the country singer Hank Williams.

Along with Minnie and Hank, Witherspoon’s American Bulldog Lou and Black Labrador Major also grace her Instagram.

“Life is just better with dogs,” Witherspoon wrote in an Instagram post.

On a somber note, the actress lost her companion, Pepper, in October of 2020. She posted a touching tribute to the Frenchie on her Instagram.

Other Celebrity Dog Names

In addition to Witherspoon, other celebrities boast interesting dog names.

Actor Hugh Jackman named his Poodle mix pup Dali, as in Salvador. Moreover, the Broadway star’s French Bulldog goes by the name Allegra. Jennifer Aniston named her rescue pup Lord Chesterfield after an 18th century politician. “He stole my heart immediately,” she wrote on Instagram in October 2020.

Other canine monikers by Hollywood’s A-listers are just as unique. Oscar Isaac named his terrier Moby, after another crooner, reports Vanity Fair. Chris Evans, known for his roles in “Captain America” and “The Gray Man,” named his rescue pup Dodger — after the Dodgers or the artful dodger? And of course Barack and Michelle Obama’s pups are Sunny and Bo Obama.

People Magazine ranks Paris Hilton first among unique celebrity dog namers, with pets called Slivington, Diamond Baby, Dollar, and Marilyn Monroe.

In 2018, animal lover Snoop Dogg offered to adopt a Bull Terrier named none other than Snoop after footage of the pup’s devastating roadside abandonment circulated online. Although Snoop ended up in a different home, we would have loved to see that pairing.

Many sports stars’ pups also have unique names. Tennis great Serena Williams named her pup after tennis star Rafael Nadal and Mario Lopez named his dog after boxer Oscar de la Hoya.
