Being a neat freak and being a dog lover don’t have to be mutually exclusive. You can be a fanatic about order and cleanliness and still have canine companionship. It all comes down to breed. Some pups simply shed less (or are hairless), require less grooming, are easier to train (and therefore necessitate less damage control), and/or are less likely to aggravate allergies. With this list of the cleanest dog breeds, neat freaks can adopt a dog, confident in knowing that their homes don’t have to turn into big, messy kennels.

Cleanest Dog Breeds for Neat Freaks

Poodle

These easily trainable pooches don’t shed, so kiss those annoying dog hairs goodbye. That said, you do have to keep Poodles groomed, so don’t lose your pet salon’s number just yet.

Cockapoo

These adorable dogs are a combo of Cocker Spaniel and Poodle. Depending on how much of each breed your pup has, you may get some shedding, but in comparison with other breeds, they’re on the lower end of the scale.

Labradoodle

This breed shot to popularity because of its compatibility with those who suffer from dog hair allergies. Their hypoallergenic and highly intelligent nature mean they make great family pets.

Mini Schnauzer

These little pups shed very little, meaning that as long as you groom, brush, and comb this breed, you won’t be grabbing the lint roller every five minutes.

Bichon Frise

These cute white pups are low shedders, so you won’t have to follow them around with a vacuum. They’re also laid back, making them even more low-maintenance.

Mexican Hairless Dog

The name says it all! This dog is technically bald, so you’ll never find dog hair where it isn’t supposed to be.

Basenji

These sweet pups with curly tails have sleek coats that don’t pick up mud and dirt like other dogs’ do.

Greyhound

Contrary to their reputation at the racetrack, Greyhounds are chill canines who want to cozy up on the couch as much as you do. And when they do so, they won’t leave a ton of hair behind because they’re a single-coated breed.

Italian Greyhound

Think aforementioned Greyhound, but smaller, and just as unlikely to leave a mess in their wake.

Whippet

While this breed sheds an average amount, their fur is short so you won’t notice it as obviously as you would fur from other dogs.
