A man in South Wales has been reunited with his two Beagles, who were both stolen three years ago, the BBC reports.

The dogs were found wandering around 200 miles away, near the village of Twyford in England. As their dog dad had them microchipped, they were traced back to South Wales. According to Wokingham Borough Council, both pups immediately recognized him when he arrived to pick them up.

Stolen Dogs Found

One dog was handed in to a local veterinarian. Meanwhile, the other was being looked after by the council’s animal wardens. When the council called the dog’s dad, he was already nearby after the vets told him his other dog had been found.

The council said that he was “delighted” to be going home with two of his dogs. However, they emphasized that another dog was “sadly yet to be found”.

The council’s animal warden said: “There was some confusion at first because we rang him to say we had his dog and he told us ‘I know, I’m actually picking him up right now’. Eventually we both realized this was a different dog that had also been stolen.

“The gentleman was absolutely elated … and I know the rest of his family were thrilled to bits as well.

“There’s no question that the dog we picked up recognized his old owner immediately. He became very sprightly for a nine-year-old, which is getting on a bit in dog years.”

Councillor Ian Shenton, executive member for environment, sport, and leisure, said: “Microchipping is extremely important, especially as dog theft has very sadly been on the increase.”

Rescuing Dogs

The council has been busy of late, recently also helping to rehouse an abandoned eight-week-old puppy and an adult Cocker Spaniel, who is thought to have been the puppy’s mother.

They were found one day apart on the same street. The puppy – Pippa – had to be given antibiotics for an infection, but both dogs are now doing well.
