Pet health startup Joipaw have created a tracker to measure dog health, and it involves a video games console that can even detect canine dementia early.
Dersim Avdar and Marco Jenny first set up Joipaw to alert pet parents to potential issues. They designed the tracker for dogs to wear on the collar. This allows it to track a dog’s activities, from steps to time spend playing, walking, and resting. It then sends the data to an app.
Playing Video Games for Good Health
The tracker comes with a console that’s packed with plenty of video games, too. The games are designed to stimulate a pup’s mind, and even include a doggy version of whack-a-mole.
Dog parents can use the Joipaw app to make sure their furry friend is in good health. This is based on data from the tracker and console. Then, if anything abnormal is highlighted, the app lets parents know. Anything from joint issues to canine dementia might be flagged early on, before it gets serious.
Avdar explained that he adopted a rescue dog in Hong Kong with his wife. As they both worked full-time, they were on the lookout for things to keep the dog busy. “We joked about buying him video games,” he said, before coming across studies suggesting that dogs enjoyed playing with touchscreen devices on their own. They even continued to play without any external rewards.
Like Apple Health but for Dogs
