A senior Rottweiler is in safe-keeping tonight after being rescued from unfathomable conditions in Neptune Township, New Jersey. The 10-year-old pup was found chained outdoors in freezing temperatures without access to food or water.
Rescuers Find Senior Rottweiler in Freezing Conditions
Officers from the Neptune Township Police Department discovered the neglected pup, named Coco, around Christmas. According to a Facebook post from Monmouth County SPCA, pipes froze at the property and the owners vacated it, abandoning the canine on a short chain on a concrete landing outside. Coco suffered through three nights outdoors in below-freezing temperatures. The Rottweiler was “confused and alone,” according to the Facebook post.
Preparing to Find a Forever Home
“Coco was brought to the shelter where she was warmed up, given food and water, and a comfortable place to rest,” the post continued. “Bloodwork later showed she may have kidney stones, as well as a genetic eye condition that affects her vision and is likely a result of careless breeding. Coco remains under our care and we’ll continue to monitor and treat her as necessary. Coco is described as a gentle, loyal, and loving dog by her staff and volunteer friends.”
While Coco was not eligible for adoption yet at the time of that Facebook post, the agency encouraged potential pet parents to keep an eye on social media for updates.
“This girl deserves a loving home!” the agency stated.
As for the people who neglected Coco, they are being charged with two counts of animal cruelty for 1) Cruel Restraint and 2) Failure to Provide Necessary Care. The Neptune Police Department told People that any further releases on those charges would be made by the Monmouth County SPCA.
