Sometimes small gestures go a long way. Sue is a volunteer at the Kansas Humane Society, one of 1500 people who donate their time to help shelter animals. She runs a program called Project Companionship, which brings shelter dogs to senior citizen care facilities to spread some love from pups who have plenty to give.

The dogs are picked from the Humane Society. They don’t have homes yet, so they’re eager to get our and get pets from people who couldn’t be more happy to see them. For seniors, it’s therapeutic and lifts their spirits. Many of them are no longer able to handle the physical aspects of owning a pet, and it’s a great chance for them to hold a loving pup again.

The program has Sue taking dogs to care homes, the Veterans Affairs, and other locations around the Wichita area. They’ve even got a waiting list, since they don’t have enough volunteers committed to the program. If you’re interested, you can visit the Kansas Humane Society’s website to find out more by clicking here.

Seniors get comfort and shelter dogs get a chance to feel the love that they need. Everybody wins. What do you think? Would you volunteer for a program like this? Let us know in the comments below.
