You may have recently heard about a 21-year-old Chihuahua named TobyKeith who Guinness World Records declared the World’s Oldest Living Dog. However, after just a few weeks of holding the record, an even older pooch took over the title.
The new World’s Oldest Living Dog is a 22-year-old Toy Fox Terrier named Pebbles from South Carolina. The pooch’s humans, Bobby and Julie Gregory, realized she might be a contender after reading about TobyKeith getting the record.
Pebbles, who loves steak and country music, is enjoying her long life and new title with her humans. They never expected her to win a World Record but feel honored that Guinness recognized her amazing longevity.

As pet parents, we’re always looking for ways to lengthen our dogs’ lives so we can spend as much time with them as possible. So you may wonder what the secret is to Pebbles’s longevity.
According to her human, Julie, “Pebbles is like a wild teen who loves to sleep during the day and is up all night.” She also listens to country music while she sleeps.
In her waking hours, she enjoys warm baths, snuggling with blankets, going for walks, and playing under the palm tree in the backyard.
Pebbles went on a diet of cat food in 2012 for health reasons — of course, always as your vet before changing your dog’s diet. Her humans also sneak her the occasional indulgence, like a hamburger or hot dog.
On her 22nd birthday, Pebbles got a warm bubble bath and a plate of ribs. It’s hard to say if any of these things have contributed to her long life, but they certainly don’t seem to hurt!
But Julie had the best advice when it comes to a dog’s longevity. She says, “Treat them like family because they are. Give them a happy, positive environment as much as possible, good, clean food, and proper health care.”

Is Pebbles The Oldest Dog Ever?

That title officially belongs to Bluey, an Australian Cattle Dog from Australia who passed away in 1939 at the ripe, old age of 29 years old.
While Bluey is the official Oldest Dog Ever, another pooch may unofficially hold the record. Maggie, an Australian Kelpie who also lived in Australia, may have lived to 30 years old.
However, her human lost her paperwork, and with no documentation for her age, Guinness couldn’t award her the official record.
But if you think your old pooch can grab a title from either Pebbles or Bluey, you can reach out to Guinness and apply to break a record. Just make sure you have your doggo’s paperwork!
