Venerable character actor André Braugher died on Monday, Dec. 11, 2023, his publicist told Variety. He was 61. While the cause of death is unknown at this time, the two-time Emmy award winner passed away after a “brief illness.”
Possessing both dramatic and comedic chops, Braugher has his Hollywood breakthrough in the Civil War drama “Glory” alongside Denzel Washington. His career included hit after television hit including, “Homicide: Life on the Street,” “Thief,” and movies such as “Primal Fear,” the horror cult-classic “The Mist,” and “City of Angels.”
However, Braugher’s most well-known role might be as Captain Raymond Holt in the police comedy, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” As fans of the show now, Holt has a Corgi named Cheddar who unfortunately passed away 2019 (via Today).
During an interview with The Los Angeles Times in 2014, André Braugher discussed singing with his own dog on the set of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” much delight of his cast mates. “Our dressing rooms are right down the hallway from each other so my crazy lab mix was with with me last year and yeah we doing a little singing, yeah,” Braugher said. When asked what they sing, he added, “I don’t know there’s the whole Beyonce album when when it. came out. We do a lot of Anthony Hamilton you know it’s um James Blake you know a lot of R&B.”
