Summer always leaves too soon! But even with summer winding down, there’s still plenty of time to do some fun activities with your dog that take advantage of the warm weather.

Lots of dogs love being outside, exploring nature, swimming, and finding new smells. But your dog’s favorite thing to do is probably spending time with you.

So get out and enjoy the summer while you have time!

1. Visit The Dog Beach

If you’re lucky enough to live in a city that has a dog beach, take your pup for a swim with some doggy buddies.

Even if your city doesn’t have a dog beach, you might still be able to find a lake to take a dip and play fetch. There are even some swimming pools that have a day just for dogs before they empty out the water for the year.

2. Go On A Road Trip

There’s nothing like a car ride for a dog. Crack the window — not too far — so they can feel the wind on their face and catch all the new smells.

Make sure your pup has a doggy seat belt. Safety first. Then just hit the road.

You don’t even need to have a destination in mind. Just spend some time with your pup.

3. Visit A National Park

Not all National Parks allow dogs on their trails, but some do. Shenandoah National Park is a dog friendly park, and Acadia, Yosemite, and the Grand Canyon all have designated areas for dogs to walk and enjoy the parks.

Check for a National Park near you that allows dogs and enjoy nature together.

4. Try A Frozen Treat

Frozen treats are great for cooling off on a hot day. Check out the video above for one of our great recipes that’s really simple to make and delicious for your pup.

You can use almost any of your dog’s favorite treats and foods to make a yummy, frozen snack.

5. Have A Backyard Sprinkler Party

If your dog loves the water, they’ll have a blast running through the sprinkler just like you probably did when you were a kid.

In fact, you can even invite some of the neighbor dogs over for a backyard party if your pup wants to hang out with some other canines while you catch up with your human friends.

6. Eat On The Patio At A Dog Friendly Restaurant

It’s becoming very popular for restaurants to allow dogs on patios and in outdoor areas.

Find a table with an umbrella or some shade, and your pup will be happy to keep you company. Remember to order them a nice dish of water so they can stay cool and hydrated.

7. Go Camping

If you’re the type of person who craves being in nature, your dog will probably love joining you on a fun camping trip.

There are plenty of campgrounds that allow dogs, so check one out in your area. You’ll have plenty of time to explore and go for walks, sit by a campfire, or even look at the stars together at night.

8. Check Out A New Dog Park

Your dog probably has a favorite dog park, but while the weather is nice, it’s a great time to explore and find new dog parks where your pup can make new friends.

You can even map out a few and check them out while you’re taking your pup on a road trip.

9. Visit A Farmers Market

Summer means the farmers markets start showing up, and many of them allow dogs to walk around while you shop for produce.

It’s a great way to get some grocery shopping done without leaving your dog at home to wait for you. Just make sure your pup gets a nice treat, too.

10. Go For A Boat Ride

If your dog loves car rides, you may want to try heading out on the water for a boat ride.

You’ll be happy to know that they make life jackets for dogs, and as long as you know the rules of boating safety, you and your pup will have a blast.

You can even stop for a swim to stay cool or bring snacks and treats for a floating picnic.
